UPDATE: Pope Francis Out of Danger; But No Immediate Discharge Planned

VATICAN CITY, Holy See – Pope Francis, 88, is reportedly in good spirits as he continues treatment for pneumonia at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital. While the Vatican confirmed Monday that his condition is no longer life-threatening, he is expected to remain hospitalized for several more days.

Having been admitted on February 14 with pneumonia in both lungs, the Pope has faced multiple respiratory crises, sparking serious concern. However, recent medical updates indicate steady improvement, with Vatican sources affirming that while he still has pneumonia, there is “no imminent danger” to his life.

No Set Timeline for Discharge

Despite earlier speculation about a possible return to his Santa Marta residence, a Vatican insider clarified Tuesday that no preparations are underway for his immediate discharge. The Pope continues to receive high-flow oxygen therapy, alternating between an oxygen mask at night and a nasal cannula during the day.

Although he missed the start of Lent, hopes remain that he could participate in Easter celebrations on April 20, the holiest day in the Christian calendar.

Faithful Offer Prayers, Children Suggest Video Games

Supporters worldwide have been praying for the Pope’s recovery, with vigils held at the Gemelli Hospital and across churches globally. Pilgrims visiting Rome for the 2025 Jubilee holy year have also dedicated prayers for his health.

Meanwhile, young patients at the Vatican-run Bambino Gesu Hospital sent Pope Francis heartfelt messages and drawings. One child, Alex, humorously suggested, “Dear Pope, I suggest you get someone to give you a PlayStation.”

12 Years as Pope & Future Speculations

This Thursday, March 13, marks 12 years since Pope Francis became the leader of 1.4 billion Catholics. While he has previously expressed openness to resigning like his predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI, he has reiterated that he currently has no plans to step down.

For now, as his condition stabilizes, the focus remains on his recovery and eventual return to the Vatican.
